Mt Pleasant decision puts mining jobs at risk

The Nationals oppose holding Australian mining and energy projects responsible for Scope 3 emissions generated when our resources are used overseas.

Today I joined Leader of The Nationals Matt Canavan, Shadow Minister for Resources Susan McDonald and other Nationals Party Colleagues to raise concerns about the uncertainty facing Australia’s resources sector following the High Court’s Mount Pleasant coal mine decision.

Australian mining jobs and investment should not be put at risk because of emissions generated when our coal and gas are used in other countries. That’s why the Coalition has announced the Protecting Mining Jobs & Exports Bill, which would prevent resource projects from being blocked, delayed or restricted on the basis of emissions generated overseas.
