Chaffey’s Corner – 13 October, 2026

We are back in Parliament this week where the Coalition will be addressing a number of critical concerns, including gun laws.
I have raised a Private Member’s Motion to call on the Government to repeal the unfair gun laws and acknowledge the problems they have caused for law-abiding gun owners, gun shop owners and sporting shooters.
I will also be speaking about the unsustainable cost-of-living increases and the Albanese Government’s plan to cut the private health insurance rebate, a move that directly targets age pensioners.
On a lighter note, I congratulate 12-year-old Kian from Coonamble, 16-year-old Molly from Dubbo, and 12-year-old Lilah, from Gunnedah for their amazing speeches that were selected through the Raise Our Voice Australia campaign. It is wonderful to have such young leadership in the Parkes electorate.
There have been some significant events in the electorate over the past two weeks. I attended the Tri-State Regional Aged Care Forum in Mildura with the Shadow Minister for Regional Health Dr Anne Webster MP and Dr Nick Coatsworth. This event looked at aged care concerns across the region, including in Broken Hill.
I also spoke at the Dubbo Dementia Expo and Forum and visited the Emannuel Care in Dubbo that has recently received a Volunteer Grant.
Dubbo College Senior Campus students held their Year 12 graduation, and I was delighted to attend and present one of the Member for Parkes Vocational Student of the Year awards I am offering to each secondary school across the Parkes electorate.
I held mobile offices in Brewarrina, Bourke and Cobar to hear people’s concerns, and met with Councils in each of those shires. We also had a great Pollies in the Pub event at Nyngan.
Across the electorate, I continue to hear from people who are struggling with any number of decisions made by the Albanese Government over the past year. There are people whose homes and businesses are being impacted by the decision to stop the Inland Rail north of Parkes, despite years of planning to go further.
There are people who have issues with aged care, the new gun laws, capital gains tax changes, changes to environmental laws and the skyrocketing cost of living. In the past few weeks, the Coalition has released our policies about more sensible migration, cheaper power, fuel price protection and tobacco.
