Three projects to commemorate the service and sacrifice of those who served in wars, conflicts and peace operations will receive funding through the federal 2025-26 Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program.
Federal Member for Parkes Jamie Chaffey said it was good to see three very worthwhile projects had been successful in their applications.
“A total of $28,430 has been approved through the Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program for initiatives by Bourke Shire Council, Forbes Shire Council and the Broken Hill Military Museum,” Mr Chaffey said.
“All three of these projects are impressive ways to honour those who have served. They will help these communities pay tribute to the people who have given so much.”
The successful projects are:
- Bourke Shire Council – $10,000 towards a new memorial at Bourke Cemetery called Remembrance Square, with separate plinths for the army, navy and air force.
- Broken Hill Military Museum – $9,330 towards the purchase and installation of purpose-built display cabinets to protect and showcase the museum’s collection of military memorabilia.
- Forbes Shire Council – $9,100 towards an immersive light display called “Lest We Forget” that will be projected on to the side of the historic Forbes Town Hall for seven nights ahead of the Forbes community ANZAC commemoration.
“It is important that people around the country are allowed and encouraged to remember those who have served in their own towns and in their own way,” Mr Chaffey said. “The Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants is one way to support this.”
