There is still time for students in Years 10, 11 and 12 to submit the 3-minute speech they may have the opportunity to present to Parliament.
Member for Parkes Jamie Chaffey urged students from across the electorate to envision themselves as newly elected Members of the House of Representatives and write a speech about a topic they believed in.
One winner from each year group will receive an expenses-paid trip to Parliament House in Canberra, including flights and accommodation, and a prize pack valued at $250. They will also present their speech to the Speaker and members live at Parliament House.
“This is a great opportunity for a young person to have their voice heard in the federal arena,” Mr Chaffey said. “I would love to see a student from the electorate of Parkes deliver their speech in Parliament House.
“This could be the first step for a future Prime Minister.”
Entries to the My First Speech Competition close on 11.59pm AEST on Monday 20 July 2026.
