Gilgandra Shire Council’s new Hunter Park Youth and Recreation Precinct is one of 15 projects across regional, rural and remote Australia that will receive funding through the latest round of the $400 million Regional Precinct and Partnership Program.
Federal Member for Parkes Jamie Chaffey said it was great to see $14 million included in the federal program for Gilgandra’s Hunter Park Sports and Recreation Precinct.
“This is significant funding for an initiative that will make a real difference in Gilgandra Shire,” Mr Chaffey said.
“The Hunter Park Youth and Recreation Precinct will deliver a modern, accessible and inter-generational community precinct, featuring a new youth centre, gym, basketball courts, swimming pool, learn-to-swim pool, splash park and essential support services including for youth, housing and homelessness.
“It’s an investment in providing even better health and lifestyle choices in a great part of regional Australia.
“Congratulations to Gilgandra Shire Council for developing plans for a precinct that will continue to attract people to the region.”
Gilgandra Shire Mayor Cr Doug Batten said the announcement was a fantastic outcome for Gilgandra.
“The Gilgandra Hunter Park Precinct directly supports the goals of council’s Towards 5000 strategy, enhancing regional liveability and leveraging growth of residential and industrial subdivisions. It is designed to support our existing community, whilst attracting new residents and families seeking opportunity, lifestyle and modern infrastructure in a regional community.”
Cobar Shire Council in the electorate of Parkes was announced as successful in its application for funds for the Grand Central Precinct Planning and Design Project in February this year.
Cobar Shire Council received $3,466,203 under the first stream of the program to support design and planning work across key sites, including a cultural-commercial hub, enhanced library services and functionality, multi-purpose town hall restoration, additional senior housing and streetscape improvements.
