Today is Australian Citizenship Day with ceremonies around the country to welcome the country’s newest Australians.
Federal Member for Parkes Jamie Chaffey today attended a citizenship ceremony in Gunnedah Shire, where six people from around the globe pledged their loyalty to Australia and its people.

“It is a great honour to attend citizenship ceremonies and witness our newest citizens pledge to uphold our democratic beliefs, our rights and liberties, and our laws,” Mr Chaffey said.
“This is a day to not only celebrate with those people who have chosen to make this country their home, but to reflect on how lucky we are to be Australian and to take pride in our own citizenship.
“We have significant freedom and privileges, but we also have responsibilities to ourselves, our communities and our country.
“I congratulate new citizens across the federal electorate of Parkes, and I look forward to attending more citizenship ceremonies in the future.”
